BRI Starts Lawsuit Challenging The New York Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA)

On Jun. 14, 2019, New York adopted an amendment to The Emergency Tenant Protection Act (ETPA), entitled The Housing Stability and Tenant Protection Act (HSTPA).The consequences of the HSTPA were anticipated to be detrimental to the multi-family housing industry in Westchester and, in response to what building and realty industry officials term as “this destructive legislation,” The Building and Realty Institute of Westchester and Putnam Counties, Inc. (BRI), its affiliated Apartment Owners Advisory Council (AOAC) and several Westchester landlords who are affected by the HSTPA filed a lawsuit seeking to void the HSTPA.
